Bookworm
I’ve always loved to read. From Little Golden Books and Berenstain Bears to Babysitters Club and Sweet Valley High, reading was one of my favorite past-times as a child. My kiddos also love to read to and we all try to read daily. Bo and Mike (and one of Bo’s teachers) are all reading The Wheel of Time series currently. Anna has reread the Keeper of the Lost Cities series more times than I can count since March (she and Bo both can’t wait until book 8.5 is released in November), but is currently reading Harry Potter. Clara flits about with her reading more — her most recent read was The Prettiest.
I’ve been reading a lot this summer too. My favorite has been Rodham by Curtis Sittenfeld. I’ve loved all of Sittenfeld’s books but American Wife and Rodham really speak my language. American Wife has murmurs of Laura Bush and Rodham is based on the premise of what would have happened if Hillary wouldn’t have married Bill. I have always had an affinity for First Ladies (my masters is in poli sci and I wrote many papers focusing on First Ladies) and I love the way Sittenfeld entwines fiction with non-fiction in these books.
Other author’s I love include Elin Hilderbrand, Colleen Hoover, Kristan Higgins, Diane Chamberlain, Kristin Hannah, Jennifer Weiner, Emily Giffin, Stacey Ballis, Liane Moriarty, and I’m sure many others I’m forgetting!
A few favorites that I’ve read over the last few years that aren’t by these authors:
Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng
Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb
The Most Fun We Ever Had by Claire Lombardo
Our library has reopened and we can pick up books with a scheduled appointment, which is much better than not having any library access, but still a pain. I’m happy to have a pile of books by my bed again though.
If you’re a reader, I’d love your recommendations for what to read next! I’ve set a goal for 25 books between August and the new year. I’d also love it if you’d follow me on Goodreads! I also post many of my books on my Instagram @TravelMomPhD under the hashtag #whatjamiereads
