We All Scream for Ice Cream!
When we were married 16 1/2 years ago, Owen and Ashley bought us an ice cream maker. This summer has been the year I’ve finally put it to good use and I think everyone in my family has been excited by the results!
It makes just enough for all 5 of us to have two scoops of homemade ice cream deliciousness. I’ve made strawberry, raspberry, chocolate, banana pudding, Oreo cheesecake, strawberry cheesecake, blueberry cheesecake and key lime pie ice cream so far. On the list for this week is a cinnamon oatmeal cookie ice cream that I’m excited to try. The trio and I typically make the ice cream in the afternoon and then freeze it until after dinner.
Like most things, once you try the homemade version, it’s challenging to go back to the packaged/premade type. While homemade ice cream is far from healthy – it tastes delicious and at least enjoying it with my family ensures portion control – unlike a pint of Ben and Jerry’s. ?
It’s amazing what you can embrace when there is more time. I’ve seriously had this ice cream maker for nearly 17 years and I’ve only used it a handful of times until this summer – and now it is a weekly staple. The magic of a pandemic and extra time at home! I’m doing my best to embrace joy and the little things where I can. Sometimes, this is as simple as a bowl of homemade ice cream!
As I’m starting to get more creative with our flavors, I’m seeking some new ideas! What’s your favorite type of ice cream? Do you have a favorite homemade recipe or a type you’d like me to try to create a recipe for? If so, please share in the comments!
