Too Much Birthday…
The title pays homage to one of my favorite Berenstain Bears books… but really, this year it was just enough birthday! 🙂
On Saturday, Clara and Anna had a birthday campout with their friends. With the pandemic, I wasn’t sure there would even be a birthday party this year, but since they are back in school with this bunch (granted, they are masked and distanced at school), we decided to give it a go. Since most of the research tends to say that there is less risk outdoors, we embraced it with a camping themed sleepover!
I made s’mores brownies for their birthday cake this year — I usually make two separate cakes so they each have one to blow out – and this time I managed to light one of them on fire. We salvaged it, sort of… 😉 Mike was on the Peloton and not amused when I yelled for him because the oven was flaming… 😉
I think the girls enjoyed the party and it was nice to feel a bit of normalcy. They swam, ran Chip like crazy, cooked hot dogs and s’mores, and swam some more. I spent most of the night out in a tent as well – just to be sure they were okay. Finally, around 3:30 am, I came back into my own bed. I was cold and somehow my tired brain decided that they would be fine at that point. ?
Their actual birthday was a good day as well. We started the morning with cinnamon rolls and jean days for school and after school there were presents, faux Chick-fil-a sandwiches for dinner, and their first swim practice as Ottawa dolphins! After swim, there were cakes and candles and lots of puppy love.
The joy on their faces makes it all worth it! For a 2020 birthday, it was definitely a success!
