Christmas 2020

Spread the love

We had a lovely Christmas at home.  Many years it has just been the 5 of us, either at home or because we were traveling, so that aspect of Christmas wasn’t too different for us.  We were invited to our friend’s house on Christmas Eve (thanks Tiara and Josh!) so we had an excused to dress nice for a few photos and make fancy food to take.

Even though we arrived home late on Christmas Eve, Santa still managed to find us. We had quite a few more presents than we usually do — both because we made the decision to stay home for the holiday and because Bo needed an entirely new wardrobe, again — even though I just bought him new clothes in August.  At least when we grows out of his current clothes that he received for Christmas, he can give them to Mike. 😉

Christmas morning, Bo set an alarm so he was up and in the front room before Mike and I were up at 5:30.  Usually, we are the first ones awake and wait for the trio to emerge, but after teasing Bo about sleeping until 11 on Christmas morning, he decided an alarm would fix that issue!  Around 6:30, we woke up Clara and Anna.  We always open stockings and gifts from Santa before brunch.  This years most coveted and used gift from Santa – cozy hoodie blankets.  They wear them constantly!

After our traditional Christmas brunch of sticky buns and breakfast casserole, we opened gifts from each other and extended family who sent gifts.  We open one gift at a time and try to guess what is in each package, so this easily took the rest of the morning!

Highlights included a new chair for Clara’s room, various gaming paraphernalia for Bo, and makeup and body sprays for Anna.  My top gifts were Bombas socks (I love them!) and an amazing Mickey waffle iron that makes waffles just like the parks — plus makes 6 at one time!

It was also Chip’s first Christmas — and he was there for it!  He received numerous gifts and didn’t know what to think of all of the unwrapping!

Once all the gifts were unwrapped and put away, we settled in with Stone Jug for a late lunch – we had pulled pork, chicken and brisket, cornbread, glazed carrots, and mashed potatoes.  Plus tons of cookies and goodies that we made in the lead up to Christmas.  We spent the rest of the day relaxing together and watching our last two Christmas movies of the season – The Santa Clause 1 and 2.

We’ve definitely had more exciting Christmas days — like the Christmas we went to Animal Kingdom for the day, or when we were on the Disney Cruise and spent the day at Castaway Cay, or the year we were in Hawaii and spent the day on Waikiki Beach — but it was still a lovely day and a perfect day together.  After all that 2020 brought, just being healthy and together made it magical.  <3
