Senses – Riviera Maya, Mexico

Spread the love

In February, we had a chance to get away for a quick, 3-night trip with our good friends, Laura and Derek.  Even though the trip was short, we made the most of it by staying right on the beach in a lovely resort and experiencing a fun excursion.  Despite the short duration, soaking up the sun and relaxing was just what I needed. Personally, it is probably the only thing that has gotten me through the cold, grey, dreary months — considering as I am typing this it is snowing outside. #overit

We chose Senses Riviera Maya – a hotel by Artisan – for our stay.  It was selected based on price but was a lovely location and I would definitely recommend it to couples looking for a relaxing experience!  Our room was huge and opened right onto the ocean.  This is the view from our room!

While the beach right outside was rocky, we enjoyed relaxing in the infinity pool and looking out at the water with fruity drinks and fish tacos.  The beach is Paraiso Beach and we just had to walk a few steps for beautiful sand and to enjoy the ocean. The pictures really don’t do it justice.

Senses is a small resort – only around 30 rooms, all oceanview – so they only have one restaurant, which is different from many of the all-inclusive options in Mexico that have numerous different restaurants, buffets, etc.  That said, the one restaurant was quite good and the resort was also very easy to get around, not large and sprawling like some resorts (where you need a golf cart to take you to the different restaurants!), so it really depends on what you are hoping for from the vacation (there are several of those resorts I love too!).  We purchased the all-inclusive option, so all of our food, drinks, etc. were already paid for with our package.

I didn’t take as many photos of food as I sometimes do — you can follow my food craziness on my Instagram @whatjamieeats — but the food was really good!  Every meal I had was delicious and tasty!  I was very impressed.  The only thing I wasn’t a huge fan of was the desserts – definitely pack some chocolate in your carry-on!

It should also be noted that the hotel does have a topless area on the roof.  That area was under construction while we were there.  I’m too modest to participate anyway, and the thought of doing so with our friends — well, yeah, that wasn’t going to happen for us!  But if you’re into that sort of thing, that is an option here as well.

Overall, it was a relaxing, small, and unique resort with good food, delicious drinks, and great ocean views.  I would definitely recommend for couples looking for a relaxing, beach-front getaway!
