Wanderlust and the Weather…

Spread the love

This sign was in the house we rented just outside of Estes Park over Thanksgiving.  I thought it was pretty fitting.

It still amazes me that you can wake up in the morning, hop on a plane, and be across the country (or even across the world) in a matter of hours.  Even with as much as we travel these days, this never fails to amaze me.  And it’s crazy to me how different things can be, after just a few hours on a plane.  It can be snowy and horrible here in the Midwest and in Orlando it can be sunny and in the low 80s.  What amazing world we live in that these opportunities are right here for the taking!

I don’t talk a ton about it here, but I really dislike winter.  Colorado was beautiful and the snow was gorgeous on the mountains and the evergreens.  And at least it was sunny.  But the cold, grey days that drag on forever in the Midwest — especially in January and February when the excitement of Christmas is over… I just can’t.  There is a reason I always try to escape the Midwest in January and February and the weather is totally the reason.

I don’t mind the Midwest in the fall, spring, and summer.  Fall is my favorite.  The beautiful changing leaves, the lovely weather, pumpkin everything (yes, I’m totally basic and 100% okay with it…).  Summer is great with the sun, the pool, and the ability to go for long walks in a tank top and shorts!  Spring is usually okay — once the gray and the rain pass.  But winter.  Winter is long.  And cold.  And ugh.

I’m trying to combat my aversion to winter this year.  I have long underwear to wear under my joggers and sweatshirts to try to stay warm.  I have my space heater.  I bought one of those light therapy lights.  I’m going to continue to exercise daily.  I’m drinking hot coffee in the morning and hot tea in the afternoon. My goal – to avoid the hibernation period!  That said, I think there will still need to be someplace warm and sunny in my January and February plans!
